The National Football League got underway in 1920 when it was known as the American Professional Football Association and began with 11 teams. Despite only 4 teams being able to finish the season the league kept going and continued to expand and contract wildly over that first decade. In 1922, the APFA was re-named as the National Football League.

Only a few franchises from those early seasons still exist today, the Chicago (now Arizona) Cardinals and Decatur Staleys (now Chicago Bears) were both teams in that inaugural season, the Green Bay Packers joined the APFA for their sophmore season in 1921. The New York Giants are the only other current-day franchise to particiate in that first decade, joining in 1925.

In 1966 the NFL announced they had reached a merger deal with the competing American Football League which would also establish a single “World’s Championship Game” which would later officially be known as the Super Bowl. In 1970, the NFL and AFL completed their merger with the AFL teams forming the new American Football Conference and the existing NFL teams going to the National Football Conference.

    I absolutely love this Ultra Game Varsity Jacket! I have other NFL branded gear from Ultra Brand and they have been great too!I ordered the Cleveland Browns jacket in medium. It is true to size and fits great. Has two outer pockets and an inner, left-side breast pocket that easily holds a smart phone. The jacket snaps shut.The outer material is a poly/wool blend that is on point for the “classic” varsity look and feel. The patches are high quality and stitched on nicely. I had a few loose threads when I initially unpacked the jacket and just used a lighter to sing them off.Another review noted that the Cleveland Browns jacket is black, and I can confirm it is in fact black. I actually like the fact that it is black! The photos show this jacket to be a dark brown, so if you are buying a Browns jacket that is something you may want to be aware of.The interior is a quilted poly satin like material. For the Browns variant, it is a matching orange to the patches and definitely gives the jacket a nice pop. The jacket is warm. So far, I have worn it out in 30-degree weather, and it performs great. Given the poly/wool shell, this would not be the best jacket to get wet.These jackets don’t seem to stay in stock for long or are hard to come by. I wanted one of these two years ago and selected the “notify me when back in stock” option. Two years later I got the notification that one was back in stock. Luckily it happened to be my size and was 67% off.If you are able to find one of these Jackets for whatever team you are a fan of, I would highly recommend these jackets!
