Who is wonder woman?

Wonder Woman is a fictional superheroine appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character is a founding member of the Justice League. The character first appeared in All Star Comics #8 in October 1941with her first feature in Sensation Comics #1 in January 1942. The Wonder Woman title has been published by DC Comics almost continuously except for a brief hiatus in 1986.In her homeland, the island nation of Themyscira, her official title is Princess Diana of Themyscira. When blending into the society outside of her homeland, she sometimes adopts her civilian identity Diana Prince.

Wonder Woman was created by the American psychologist and writer William Moulton Marston (pen name: Charles Moulton),and artist Harry G. Peter. Marston’s wife, Elizabeth, and their life partner, Olive Byrne, are credited as being his inspiration for the character’s appearance.Marston’s comics featured his ideas on DISC theory, and the character drew a great deal of inspiration from early feminists, and especially from birth control pioneer Margaret Sanger; in particular, her piece “Woman and the New Race”.

Wonder Woman’s Bronze Age origin story relates that she was sculpted from clay by her mother Queen Hippolyta and was given a life to live, from Zeus, as an Amazon, along with superhuman powers as gifts by the Greek gods. In recent years[vague], DC changed her background with the retcon that she is the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, jointly raised by her mother and her aunts Antiope and Menalippe. The character has changed in depiction over the decades, including briefly losing her powers entirely in the late 1960s; by the 1980s, artist George Perez gave her an athletic look and emphasized her Amazonian heritage. She possesses an arsenal of magical items, including the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, a tiara which serves as a projectile, and, in older stories, a range of devices based on Amazon technology.

Wonder Woman’s character was created during World War II; the character in the story was initially depicted fighting Axis military forces as well as an assortment of colorful supervillains, although over time her stories came to place greater emphasis on characters, deities, and monsters from Greek mythology. Many stories depicted Wonder Woman rescuing herself from bondage, which defeated the “damsels in distress” trope that was common in comics during the 1940s.In the decades since her debut, Wonder Woman has gained a cast of enemies bent on eliminating the Amazon, including classic villains such as Ares, Cheetah, Doctor Poison, Circe, Doctor Psycho, and Giganta, along with more recent adversaries such as Veronica Cale Cheeta and the First Born. Wonder Woman has also regularly appeared in comic books featuring the superhero teams Justice Society (from 1941) and Justice League (from 1960).

The character is an iconic figure in popular culture that has been adapted to various media. October 21 is Wonder Woman Day, commemorating the release of her first appearance in All Star Comics #8(with the exception of 2017 which held the day on June 3 to tie in with the release of the film of the same name).

Wonder Woman has been featured in various media from radio to television and film, and appears in merchandise sold around the world, such as apparel, toys, dolls, jewelry, and video games. Shannon Farnon, Susan Eisenberg, Maggie Q, Lucy Lawless, Keri Russell, Kate Beckinsale, Rosario Dawson, Cobie Smulders, and Stana Katic among others, have provided the character’s voice for animated adaptations. Wonder Woman has been depicted in both film and television by Cathy Lee Crosby, Lynda Carter, and in the DC Extended Universe films by Gal Gadot.

7 reason why does people like wonder woman so much?

Have you been swept away this week by the Wonder Woman craze like the rest of the world? A superhero so amazing that boys and girls alike want to be like her; count me in! The global impact this (SH)ero is making on little boys and girls is breathtaking. Here are 7 reasons we love Wonder Woman and believe she is a kindred spirit to our awesome tribe here!

WONDER WOMAN IS A GLOBAL CITIZEN.

Wonder Woman travels the world to teach others about empathy and tolerance. Her overarching goal is to aid a humanity destined to destroy itself. Wonder Woman’s true super power is her empathy. I think we can all agree that our current world desperately needs this kind of heroism!

If you were on Twitter this week, you may have seen Gal Gadot herself respond to the reactions of kids to her movie. A group of Kindergarten students gave their reactions and it could not have been more inspiring! Read here for tips on how to raise global citizens!

WONDER WOMAN READS A LOT.

In one scene, Wonder Woman is shown reading Sumerian which is the first known written language. Anyone who had mastered Sumerian by the early 20th century would have been among a very elite group of scholars. I can say with confidence that Wonder Woman has dedicated herself to life long learning.

A potentially fun summer project for you or your littles; break out clay and a stylus and make your own secret code in ancient Sumerian. For expert tips on writing with kids.

WONDER WOMAN SPEAKS ALL THE LANGUAGES.

The term for her power to speak every language is omnilingualism. This power is so rare that even the word is uncommon (and will show up red in spell check). It is most convenient in most superhero stories that everyone speaks English. Wonder Woman has the ability to travel all over the world and connect with people in their native tongue; a most admirable quality indeed.

WONDER WOMAN IS A TRUE LEADER.

With her god-given leadership abilities and talents, she could easily charge ahead and leave others behind. A true leader knows how to cultivate relationships with their followers. I love how she is strong enough alone and doesn’t “need” anyone, but always takes on allies because she cares about bringing out the best in others.

This is a perfect illustration of of our relationships with our children. We let them sweep or read the bedtime story because we love sharing experiences with them. In turn, this teaches them self-reliance.

WONDER WOMAN HAS LIFE EXPERIENCE.

Let me step out of the “Wonder Woman” box for just one point and point out how Gal Gadot is as a real human being. Gadot is Israeli (despite the haters on social media saying she is not a POC); after growing up in a small town, she became a model (2004 Miss Israel contest), but then served 2 years in the Israeli Defense Forces as a combat trainer. Gadot went on to study law and international relations. She is multilingual and she was 5 months pregnant while she was shooting the Wonder Woman film.

She’s an actress, model, veteran, businesswoman, mother, wife and all around wondrous woman. Read HERE how Israel is embracing their homegrown hero and now international celebrity!

WONDER WOMAN SETS GOALS AND ACCOMPLISHES THEM.

We are halfway through 2017 and I do not know about you, but I look at my list for the year and I have a long way to go. However, Wonder Woman shows us all that our dream journey IS in fact possible. Our goals are attainable and NO ONE and NOTHING can stop you if you believe in yourself.

BOTH GENDERS RELATE TO WONDER WOMAN.

Boys and girls are seeing the value of her character. She is not seen for her gender, but as someone who is worthy of being looked up to. Period. Children need to have mentors and heroes and Wonder Woman is a great place to start for any of our littles.

I recommend you read this amazing article on Why Boys Need Wonder Woman Too. I can completely relate to this mother hoping for gender lines to finally be broken. We must continue to push retailers to start selling both Iron Man and Wonder Woman clothes in both boys and girls sections.

There are many more than 7 reasons we love Wonder Woman; tell us why you love her in the comments below!

Before you go, read the stories of a few every day wonder women in our superhero series. In this series, I highlight four very special women around the world; a human rights lawyer, a teacher, a diplomat, and a sociologist.

These women are crushing their goals and creating a better world for the future generations. These women are not ones you will read about in the history books (yet!), but are inspirations to both you, me, and our kids. They are fierce and wondrous women and you do not want to miss their incredible and inspirational stories.
