Why do superheroes need a costume shirt?
Superheroes wear costumes shirt for a variety of reasons:
Practicality: some costumes incorporate utility belts, armor, etc but what’s less intuitive is why they have to dress so colorful and distinct. This helps people identify the hero so they know who the “good guy” is (stop crimes in a ski mask and you may as well just be another crook). Even the much-maligned capes can serve a purpose whether they act as some sort of shield, a makeshift glider, or help confuse the enemy while you’re moving around. Catsuits and tights would be great for someone who has to be agile or stealthy.
Symbolism: some superheroes strive to stand for an idea or cause rather than just fight crime directly. Superman’s bright colors make him easy to spot flying around: he’s a beacon of hope. Batman dresses like a monster to scare criminals and make people think he’s not even human. Other superheroes may want to pay homage to their inspirations or counterparts or reference their mythology or code name. Green Arrow evokes Robin Hood with his green colors and quiver. Black Widow is…a woman in a black catsuit, basically.
Disguise: At a bare minimum good superhero costumes conceal the all-important secret identity.
Cultural Identity and Comfort: Sometimes superhero “costumes” aren’t actually that. In the cases of people like Thor or Wonder Woman, their costumes are just what they wear in the places they come from. Man of Steel also portrayed Superman’s “costume” in this manner, as the kind of thing people from Krypton just wear.
Reputation Management: It’s important to be identifiable to witnesses and police so as not to be wrongly accused of going too far on a criminal that you didn’t actually handle. Think of it as the crime-fighting equivalent of a calling card. This is doubly important in worlds where there are many superheroes with different brands of justice.
Compression Shirt Benefits
In a healthy athlete, compression gear serves a different role. Most who choose to wear compression garments anticipate that they will experience improved circulation and mechanics. It is thought that compression garments may reduce muscle oscillations which will theoretically optimize the contraction direction of muscle fibers, resulting in improved mechanical efficiency and running kinematics.
The use of compression gear may also reduce vibration in skeletal muscle during training and competition. It is hypothesized that the reduced vibration would contribute to less muscle trauma, and as a result, less fatigue and biomechanical alterations during the course of an endurance event. As a result, athletes are expected to experience less soreness, edema, and a faster recovery in the days after exercise.
Other purported benefits of compression sportswear are:
- It keeps the muscles warm to prevent muscle strain.
- It wicks sweat away from the body to prevent chafing and rashes.
- Helping relieve pain from muscle stiffness and soreness.
- Reducing the time taken for muscles to repair themselves.
- When the right amount of compression is used (will vary depending on body area, typically in the range of 10 to 25 mmHg), improving venous return and oxygenation to working muscles.

Perfect! I ordered this before reading the reviews and was worried the logo would not be centered as many have said. The one that came for me was perfect! I guess the seller you order from may send you a fake one. Nice material. It’s a bit thin. You can see the light go through it. Possibly washing and drying may make it less so. It is only slightly slimmer than a normal t shirt. It doesn’t feel tight on me at all.

For Halloween last year my son was Superman (Superbaby?). My husband doesn’t really like dressing up so I got him this shirt to wear under a dress shirt so he could be Clark Kent and I was Lois Lane. The shirt is soft and the logo looks great. My husband typically wears a large shirt and this fit exactly like the rest of his large shirts. It might be a *tiny* bit on the small side but it fit and his costume was great with the addition of a Clark Kent badge I bought on Etsy and put his picture on. The stitching on the shirt is great with no loose threads or anything. He’s worn it a couple of times since Halloween. Because of the logo, we have been hang drying it just to be safe. This shirt would be great for any fan of Superman!

This shirt worked perfectly for me. I wanted it boxy because I planned to cut it a bit. I’d say it’s true to size. It fit as expected. The logo is large but I was prepared for that based on other reviews. Word of warning though, I washed it in the sink before I wore it and boy did it run! So much ink washed out that I could’ve dyed another garment! Some of the logo may have chipped off too but it still looked fine.

Bought this as a gift and the recipient loves it. The logo is very large and the colors are quite bright. He’s had it and worn it off and on for about 3 months with no fading in the wash and no peeling of the logo. Seems true to size chart.
